Training for sustainable drainage goes nation-wide

Awareness of Sustainable drainage systems (SUDS) by practitioners and their implementation in developments continues to increase steadily.

Following a successful SUDS training programme in 2006 and 2007, CIRIA (in partnership with Sustainable Drainage Associates) has added a number of new training venues around the UK and Ireland for 2008. Training is now available in London, Bristol, Birmingham, Dublin, Cork and Scotland.

There are four SUDS training modules: Introduction to SUDS; Designing SUDS; Planning and evaluating SUDS; and Maintenance and adoption of SUDS.

The modules are designed for all levels of knowledge from professionals new to SUDS through to professionals who have extensive knowledge and experience of sustainable drainage concepts. The training programme will enable practitioners to efficiently plan, design, construct and manage SUDS schemes within the relevant legal and regulatory framework. These events are lead by nationally recognised practitioners that have experience of implementing SUDS in a range of developments. Interactive course guidance will use a variety of learning styles to engage and inspire delegates and the modules will include a number of demonstrative group exercises and case studies.

Delegates may attend individual modules or a combination. Each is fully accredited for CIWEM and construction CPD schemes.

Bioregional CPD sustainability training

Sustainable community specialists, BioRegional, held their first zero carbon homes training session on 29 June within their education centre at the BedZED ecovillage in south London. The aims of the launch were to help the industry begin to plan a move towards the new standard and to gain feedback from the expert invitees to ensure that the course content would be of the highest standard and of most use to the industry.

As with the launch event, subsequent CPD sessions will feature talks from Sue Riddlestone, founder and director of BioRegional, as well as seminars from Chani Leahong, sustainable development specialist at Fulcrum Consulting and Simon Corbey, sustainability consultant in the built environment. In addition to this there will be the opportunity for attendees to have their questions answered by members of the expert panel during the Zero Carbon Surgery.
Upcoming course dates:

Friday 19th September 2008: Zero Carbon Homes CPD
Friday 10th October 2008: BedZED and Beyond CPD
Friday 24th October 2008: Zero Carbon Homes
